FAQ (network related)

The following are network related FAQ.

I do not know how to set up wireless LAN.

Please refer to here.

Basic version: cannot connect to wireless LAN

his is a checklist to use when you cannot make a connection with wireless LAN.
Here, the case of Windows PC is cited as an example.

  • Is your user ID and password used to connect keiomobile 2 / eduroam correct?
    • Using Keio ID issue

User ID is your ID of your keio.jp account (include "@ keio.jp").
      (e.g. keio.taro@keio.jp )
Password uses your Wi-Fi password. Your password of keio.jp accout cannot use.
      Check Wi-Fi connection password here.

    • Using ITC account issue

User ID is your userID of your ITC account plus "@user.keio.ac.jp".
(e.g. If your ITC account userID is "ub999999", it is "ub999999@user.keio.ac.jp". )
Password uses your Wi-Fi password. Your password of ITC accout cannot use.
      Check Wi-Fi connection password here.

  • Is wireless LAN working?

First, make sure that your PC contains wireless LAN. If it does not, you must have a separate wireless LAN adapter. If it does, check to see if the wireless LAN is ON or OFF. Usually, switch it with the Short Cut Key, and others, do it with a switch on the side of the computer. If you cannot physically find the switch, it is a short-cut key, so if you do not know where it is, check the Internet. (In many models, this is done by pressing a key marked with an antenna at the top of the keyboard while holding down the Fn key.)

  • If the time of the device is not correct, please set accurate time.

Applied version: cannot connect to wireless LAN

This is a detailed check list for a case that the basic version cannot resolve.

  • Is the device working?

Using Windows 11, Start up with [Start → All apps → Windows Tools → Command Prompt] and execute [ipconfig /all].
As a result, a table of the network device and its status are displayed. Among these, if there is an item called [wireless~], there are no problems with the device. If there isn’t, the device is not working, so open [Right click on start → Device manager] then double-click the network adapter → wireless~ → it starts working.

  • Was it set under another environment?

There are cases where special settings are done in order to connect in a work place or laboratory. If these settings are fixed, it is necessary to change it every time.

Using Windows 11, Check [Automatically detect settings] at [Settings → Network & internet → Advanced network settings → Internet options → connections tab → LAN settings]. A proxy is not used, so do not check it. Even using Chrome or other browser, there are cases where setting is seen, so confirm this setting.
  • Setting of IP Address, DNS

Cannot connect, when the setting [Automatically obtaining the address of IPv6 or IPv4] and [Automatically obtaining the address of the DNS server] isn't selected. Refer to the link below for setting.

Cannot use a specified service

A firewall is constructed between the network inside Keio and the Internet partially limiting the use of some services.
Please refer to here.

And if the firewall software is inside the PC, there are cases where connection is impossible. The setting method differs according to the software, but it might have be better to try to find out if connection is possible when the firewall has been cut.
